清源堂名医谷风之子意外溺水身亡，谷老太归咎于管家房成。房成心中不快，恰逢他与有夫之妇何秀所生女儿蔷薇无处寄养，故将谷风寄养在外的女儿忍冬与其掉包。蔷薇被带回谷家，成了掌上明珠，而忍冬则被送到何秀处，在贫寒困苦中长大。忍冬机缘巧合下来到清源堂工作，与同样命运多舛的韩冲相识。她乐观的天性和医学天赋，很快赢得了众人的喜爱，甚至蔷薇暗恋多年的正定，也对忍冬渐生好感。房成得知忍冬身份后，陷害忍冬，谷老太因此对忍冬处处刁难。蔷薇获悉真相后，为保住自己地位，也不惜一切代价力图阻止忍冬重回谷家。在韩冲和正定的帮助下，忍冬凭借自己不懈的努力，化解了种种危机和困境，成为妇孺皆知的女大夫。房成阴谋败露，最终忏悔伏法，谷家父女终于得以团聚。
