堂上総合病院に赴任して２年。オペの腕はもちろんだが、緩急を織り交ぜて人の心を動かすことに長けたスーパードクター・相良浩介（沢村一樹）のおかげで、病院は以前とは見違えるほど患者の笑顔に満ち、ナースの佐知（比嘉愛未）をはじめスタッフは活気にあふれていた。しかし、ある日、院長のたまき（野際陽子）は引退を表明し、甥である外科医・森山卓（高嶋政伸）を新院長に指名する。森山の人格に不信感を抱く内科医・和枝（伊藤蘭）や看護師たちは動揺を隠せない。さらに、森山の担当患者である直子（山口美也子）の術後の経過が良くないことに不安を感じた直子の娘・美由紀（京野ことみ）が、担当医の交代を要求。だが、森山は当然のごとく怒りその申し出を却下してしまう。そんな状況の中、相良は“ある計画”を実行しようとするが……。
